Wiltshire Council has announced that activity tracker watches will be available for residents to borrow from the north and south mobile libraries, as well as the libraries in Salisbury and Trowbridge.

People will be able to loan the watches, as well as blood pressure monitors for up to six weeks if they are a member of Wiltshire libraries.

The scheme is part of an effort to encourage residents to stay healthy and active by monitoring things such as their steps, heart rate and sleep quality.

The devices can be used at home to see how changes in lifestyle have an impact on health.

Councillor Ian Blair-Pilling, cabinet member for public health, leisure and libraries, said: “These watches are there for everyone – from beginners to those who regularly exercise so I’d recommend anyone interested borrows one to try it out, as there’s nothing to lose.

“I would also encourage anyone looking to reduce their blood pressure to borrow a free blood pressure monitor so they can see in real-time the difference any changes in their lifestyle are making.

“High blood pressure can lead to numerous conditions, and I hope these monitors will help people to take positive steps to improve their health.”
