Children from local primary schools in Trowbridge and Keevil have been bringing some seasonal Christmas cheer to nearby care home residents.

Children from Keevil CofE Primary School continued to get active in the community during the festive season, spreading seasonal cheer and generating much-needed support within the local area.

The school's Summer class once again put on a fantastic Christmas Concert at Melksham's Blenheim House Care Home.

The pupils performed a number of Christmas songs for the residents who were absolutely delighted. The class had a wonderful time singing and engaging with the highly appreciative audience.

After the concert, the pupils presented each resident with a personalised card and decoration individually crafted by each child at the school.

Headteacher Lindsey Hermon said: “It’s wonderful to see the joy that the singing and Christmas cards bring to the Blenheim House residents.

“The children really love interacting with the residents on a personal level. You can see how truly engaged they are with each other.”

But it wasn't just merriment that the Keevil Primary School pupils were spreading. They also ran a reverse advent calendar, collecting a huge amount of staple provisions and Christmas treats, which they donated to The Storehouse Food Bank in Trowbridge.

The Keevil School children also collected a large number of Christmas gifts that they donated to the local charity Ruksac 45218, which helps families in Wiltshire who cannot afford to buy Christmas presents for their children.

Mrs Hermon added “We would like to extend thanks and gratitude to everyone who kindly donated to the two initiatives, particularly during these challenging times.”

Meanwhile, some Key Stage One children from  Newtown Primary School in Trowbridge shared songs and parts from their upcoming nativity 'The angel who almost missed it' to residents at nearby Goodson Lodge care home.

Mrs Katie Potter, the Willow class teacher, led the children as they entertained the residents.

Since just before Covid Newtown School have linked up with Goodson Lodge, supporting them with their activities for residents, including sunflower competitions, making bird feeders and sharing cards and poems.

Assistant headteacher Catherine Tawn organises the events alongside Alex Damon, the care home's events manager, said: “It was so lovely to get out into the community and share the festive spirit.

“The residents clapped and laughed along as the children brought the Christmas cheer to Goodson! The children were confident, polite and amazing as always.”
