Police have closed a Wiltshire road after power cables were brought down in high winds.

A live electric power cable was left hanging across the B3105 at Staverton and pavement after being brought down in Storm Henk.

Police have closed the road while engineers from Scottish & Southern Electricity Network try to repair the cable.

The power cut between the Kings Arms and School Lane at Staverton is affecting homes and businesses in the BA14 postcode area.

It was reported at 3.41pm and power is not expected to be restored until 10pm.

SSEN said: “We’re sorry for the loss of supply. We currently have a fault affecting the areas listed.

“Our engineers are on site working hard to get the power back on as quickly as they can.
