Police have explained why a section of the A4 near Wiltshire's border was closed during rush hour.
Queues of congestion built up on the Box Road side of the Bradford Road roundabout near Batheaston on Monday.
Traffic slowed to a crawl between the busy junction and the turning to Box on the section of A4 that is also known as Bath Road.
Flooding left part of the carriageway underwater and caused problems for vehicles traveling along it.
The road reopened at around 10am and traffic is now flowing as normal, with no blockages.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called shortly before 8.45am this morning, January 8, to the junction of Box Road and Ashley Stud, near Bathford, to a report of a vehicle stranded in flood water.
"Officers supported council staff while they drained water from the road. The road was cleared within an hour."
