Wilko has revealed it is “interested” in returning to Chippenham - but ruled out any imminent plans to open a store.

The High Street retailer closed the doors of its final Wiltshire store in the town centre in September last year just months after entering administration.

But while Wilko says it now has “ambitious” plans to reopen UK stores, after a takeover by The Range owners CDS Superstores, Chippenham is not currently a location set to be given a new branch.

In December the collapsed homeware chain began its return to the High Street when branches in Plymouth and Exeter reopened under new ownership.

At the time, CDS Superstores chief executive Alex Simpkin confirmed further store launches would be announced throughout 2024.

Despite Wilko having no imminent plans to reopen a Chippenham shop, a spokesperson added that they remain interested in discussing new opportunities for the town.

They added: “We’ve ambitious plans at Wilko to open stores across the country to serve our local communities once again and are considering hundreds of towns and locations.

“Chippenham isn’t currently one of those locations being announced, however we’re always interested in discussing opportunities for new stores in Chippenham and across the UK.”

Other former Wilko stores in the area, including The Parade in Swindon, have been reopened as new Poundland branches.
