The details of a new community hub in Bromham have been revealed in a proposed replacement for the former Bromham Social Centre.

The building suffered a huge fire in 2021 and was completely destroyed.

New plans submitted to Wiltshire Council could provide Bromham with a community hub on the site, designed by Oxford Architects and Bromham Parish Council.

The application notes: “The social centre was a well-loved part of the local community and has been sorely missed by local residents since the fire.

“The absence of the main hall, which hosted many events such as weddings and birthday parties, has been especially noticed with nowhere else in the local area providing a venue of this size.”

The proposed community hub would have a footprint of 496m2, which is considerably smaller than the former social centre, which had a footprint of approximately 800m2.

Nevertheless, a “more efficient use of space” should allow the new building to fulfil many of the same functions.

The community hub would be positioned to maximise views across the fields to the south and west and would have solar PV panels on the south-west facing roofs.

The application also contains outline plans for potential future projects, including a village shop and new sports pavilion.

Wiltshire Council will make its decision by Monday, April 15.
