A man and woman in their 20s have been arrested after a crash in Melksham which left a pensioner with injuries.

The crash, which happened at 3.10pm on Tuesday, January 23, saw a silver Ford Focus and a black Range Rover collide on Bank Street in Melksham.

The man in his 70s suffered injuries which are not thought to be life-changing and two people were arrested at the scene.

A woman in her 20s has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving following the afternoon crash, and a man in his 20s has also been arrested on suspicion of breaching section 5 of the public order act.

Section 5 of the act applies to people who have used abusive or threatening behaviour, acted in a disorderly way, or caused harassment or distress.

One fire engine from Trowbridge attended the scene along with two appliances from Avon Fire and Rescue Service.

"We were called at 3.47pm yesterday (January 23) to a road traffic collision on Bank Street, Melksham," said a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police.

"One elderly male was extricated from one of the vehicles using Halmatro cutting equipment and crews worked on making the scene safe."

Both of the suspects arrested now remain in custody for questioning.
