ONE of the UK’s leading discount retailers is to close its store in Trowbridge and trial a rebrand to a pound store.

Staff at the Bargain Buys store in Fore Street have plastered its windows with posters advertising a “20 per cent off everything closing down" sale.

But one of the 12 employees at the store said the intention was not to close permanently but to trial a rebrand to a pound store for a short period.

"We haven't been told everything but we understand the company wants to trial the store becoming a pound shop for a short period and see what happens.

"If it does not work, we will go back to being Bargain Buys again. Everybody's job is safe and everybody is happy."

Part of the Poundstretcher family, Bargain Buys says it provides its customers with “big brands and big discounts”.

It adds: “With Bargain Buys, you can be confident that you are getting the best deals, making your budget go further without sacrificing on quality or style.

“Employing over 1,000 people, Bargain Buys aims to offer fantastic customer service and a quality selection of products at all of our stores across the UK.”
