Three teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of arson after town centre toilets were set on fire in the early hours.

Police are investigating after receiving reports of the public lavatories and nearby bins on Market Place in Melksham being burned at some point between 3.30am and 4.15am on Sunday, January 7.

Over the weekend of January 27 and 28, after viewing CCTV footage of the scene, officers arrested a 15-year-old boy and two 16-year-old boys from the local area in connection with the crime.

The young suspects have since been interviewed and released on bail while police continue to carry out enquiries.

Inspector Andy Lemon from Wiltshire Police said: “This type of behaviour will not be tolerated.

“Such disrespect for your home town is unacceptable and has a significant negative impact on a local community.

“Enquiries are ongoing and we will keep local residents updated with further progress.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident is advised to call police as soon as possible on 101 and quote crime reference number 54240009139, or call CrimeStoppers to report information anonymously on 0800 555 111.
