TROWBRIDGE Library was heaving with children and adults on Tuesday morning during the half-term break from school.

But they weren’t just there for the books – most had come to swap packets of seeds to sow in their gardens at home.

The Seed Social is a joint venture between Wiltshire Council library services and Trowbridge Environmental Community.

Marie Hillcoat, of Trowbridge Eco group, said: “It was really good. We had lots of families here and the library was heaving.

“We had about 30 families and some adults without children who had all come to swap seeds for their garden.”

Everyone is welcome to attend the Seed Social where children fill and decorate seed packs for people to swap in the seed library.

The children helped to create a giant sunflower collage, while adults were swapping seeds and chatting about all things gardening.

Marie added: “It started last year and is going really well. It’s in the centre of the library and attracts a lot of attention.

“It’s open to all ages and levels of knowledge. Seed donations are welcomed, full packs, open packs or collected seeds from your garden.”

The event was so popular, organisers hope to organise another Seed Social at Easter.
