The owner of a Swindon car dealership is stepping down after more than 30 years in charge.

Pebley Beach boss Dominic Threlfall announced his retirement after finding suitable new owners for the company he has lead for 32 years.

The Trowbridge-based Platinum Motor Group (Renrod Ltd) now owns the business, which manages a Hyundai and Suzuki sales site in Swindon as well as a Suzuki dealership in Cirencester.

Renrod’s directors completed the deal on Monday, February 12, a day which marked the end of a year-long process to make it happen.

Platinum Motor Group managing director Jeremy Cuff explained that Mr Threlfall approached him after deciding to step down from the top job.

After the motor companies that supply the dealerships backed the planned change of hands, Mr Cuff jumped at the chance to acquire the business.

He added: “Dom asked as to whether we’d be interested in expanding our Hyundai representation and taking on a new brand to our company in the form of Suzuki.

“Our interest in doing so then led to a more specific discussion with Dom and the teams at both Hyundai UK and Suzuki UK, who were supportive of the change of ownership.

“The Pebley Beach business is long established in the Swindon and Cirencester market areas for the Hyundai and Suzuki brands, which, under Dom’s leadership and the good work of his dealership team members, have created and maintained a business that is highly respected locally and within Hyundai UK and Suzuki UK, serving a great many customers and renowned for providing excellent service and customer care.

“With Dom’s decision to retire, it is now our task to ensure that the good work and reputation of the business is maintained into the future.”

Following the takeover, the Platinum Group will operate a larger continuous territory for Hyundai sales, which will provide marketing and communication advantages, and the ability to share resources and knowledge.

The group welcomed Suzuki as a new brand partner for its portfolio of franchises and plans to rename the dealerships to Platinum Hyundai and Suzuki in the near future.

Pebley Beach’s retiring owner and managing director, Dominic Threlfall, said: "As always when deciding to leave an industry, it's tinged with a mixture of happiness and sadness. But the time is right to move on.

“In the Platinum Motor Group ownership and their respective team, I found the same core values and a lot of synergies.

“Consequently, I feel very confident in the future for the team members and customers. I leave the business in very capable hands to take it to the next level."

The deal was brokered on behalf of Pebley Beach by Fraser Brown of the automotive training and consultancy MotorVise.

He said: “The acquisition benefits both parties.

“It provides an excellent growth opportunity for Platinum Motor Group, whilst Dominic can enjoy his well-earned retirement safe in the knowledge that the business he built up over 32 years is in good hands.”

Mr Cuff added: “On behalf of the entire Platinum Motor Group, I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome all the Pebley Beach dealership Team Members into the Platinum Motor Group, and we look forward to working with everyone going forwards.

“We’d also like to wish Dom a long and happy retirement.”
