The Canal & River Trust said: A significant canal leak has developed on a section of canal located on an embankment above the River Avon.

"A permanent repair needs to be implemented as soon as possible, given concerns for the stability of the embankment.

"The work will require the canal to be closed. A section of around 100m will be dewatered to enable the repair to be undertaken.

“We expect the navigation to be closed for around six weeks, while we install dams, remove the water from the canal and effect the repairs. Our target for completion is 15th March 2024.

“We have now agreed with the contractors to keep the towpath open, whilst work is in progress. Please pass through with care.”
