People have been left queuing for water in the evening after a water leak has left over one hundred homes without any.

A water leak in the SN15 area of Chippenham was reported at 9.40am early in the morning, and several homes have seen their water supply stop.

Two pubs - The Old Lane and Pack Horse - have been forced to close their doors to customers.

Wessex Water is reportedly on the case but in an update at 7pm on Thursday, February 29, it confirmed it was still working to resolve the issue.

A Wessex Water spokesperson said: "We’re sorry for any inconvenience the burst water main in the SN15 area is still causing.

"We have set up a bottled water station at Pewsham Community Centre, Lodge Road, Chippenham, SN15 3SY.

"Our team is still working hard to repair the problem and has managed to restore the water supply to most properties.

Locals flocked to the community centre to get their hands on some bottled water in the evening, with a large queue forming.

The utility company had previously tweeted about the issue at lunchtime, where it said: "Apologies to customers in the SN15 area of #Chippenham who might be experiencing no water or low pressure due to a burst main.

"We’re working to fix it. When supply is restored, you may experience."

The water company has since warned that when the issue is resolved, although it is not clear when that will be, people can experience a change in their water.

"Please note that as supply is restored, customers may have low water pressure and/or discoloured water as the network gets back to normal."
