A Wiltshire building society branch is set to be revamped with the chain’s controversial new logo after plans were submitted.

Last year Nationwide, which has its headquarters in Swindon, launched a major rebranding that overhauled its familiar signage with a new logo.

At the time the new branding caused a stir, with many claiming it had an uncanny resemblance to Natwest’s logo.

Now Nationwide’s Chippenham High Street branch looks set to be revamped with the new signage after plans were submitted to make alterations to the Grade II listed building.

The move comes amidst a pledge to retain all current Nationwide branches until 2026.

A spokesperson for the building society said: “We are committed to our Chippenham branch and we are replacing our sign with our new branding.

“Everywhere we have a branch we will remain until at least 2026 and we are updating all our branch branding.”

If approved by the council, the plans would see the addition of a new fascia sign, a projecting sign, and a new window message saying, “a good way to bank.”

Nationwide says the works will have no adverse impacts on neighbours or the character of the building.

The firm believes the new logo will make them “more relevant” to people when deciding who to bank with.
