Plans for a new £100 million state-of-the-art rail centre in Wiltshire have been labelled a “big boost” for the local and national economy.
The new site will replace the firm’s current factory at Langley Park and 800 local employees are expected to be transferred over by 2026.
Chancellor Jeremy Hunt visited the current Siemens site following the announcement.
He claimed the proposed development was a boost for local and national manufacturing.
He said: “This new commitment from Siemens is a big boost for Britain’s world-class manufacturing sector and shows our plan for the UK to be the best place to invest and grow a business is working.
“This digital technology will improve the safety, reliability and connectivity of our railways and drive sustainable opportunities in higher-paid jobs and exports – as part of our plan to grow our economy.”
Siemens says the new facility will be one of the “most sophisticated” sites in the county and will help them continue “transforming rail travel and transport in Britain.”
