A small village between Chippenham and Swindon is due to get a brand-new village hall after Wiltshire Council approved the demolition of the current hall, which was built during WW1.

The Christian Malford Village Hall Committee submitted a planning application to the council in January 2023 that requested permission to construct a replacement building that would “better suit the needs of the community.”

This permission has now been granted and will allow for a bigger and more accessibly village hall, with a large kitchen and facilities for the local theatre group.

Meanwhile, approximately 10 miles away, Wiltshire Council also approved a planning application that will allow Flaxlands Manor Farm, outside Royal Wootton Bassett, to become a residential school.

The site will provide “a much-needed education and respite provision which will meet the needs of children and young people with some of the most complex special educational needs in the county, a provision currently not available in North Wiltshire or the surrounding areas.”

The development will be designed to cater to between 28 and 35 learners between the ages of 11 and 19, with up to nine places for respite care.
