The construction of a new housing development has been given the go ahead in Wiltshire’s county town.

50 new homes are set to be built on land off Frome Road, in the Upper Studley area of Trowbridge.

The original plans were submitted to Wiltshire Council in December 2020, and have just been given the green light after adjustments in accordance with the planning department’s feedback.

The development will offer a total of 50 new one, two, three and four-bedroomed houses, 15 of which will be affordable units.

Referring to the design, the application stated: “Newland Homes have created homes reflective of the 21st century and blended it into the existing fabric using materials sympathetic to the semi-rural countryside views and those local to the wider area of Trowbridge.”

Trowbridge Town Council objected to the development, on the basis that the applicant had failed to consider the sites linked to the one in question in the Wiltshire Housing Site Allocation Plan.

A further 57 letters of objection were received, raising concerns about the impact on the area and the location of the development.

Nevertheless, Wiltshire Council concluded that the proposal would “result in no measurable ‘harm’ to the matters of acknowledged importance, but would have positive benefits in terms of delivering housing.”
