CHILDREN visiting the Corinium Museum in Cirencester throughout March, April and early May will be challenged to search for drawings of wild animals and insects which have been hidden around the collection.

The Spring Trail has been organised by Caroline Morris, collections and education manager at the Corinium Museum, in collaboration with Anna Platts, the illustrator of popular children’s picture book At the Bottom of Dudley’s Garden.

Caroline said: “The award winning Dudley’s Garden books have important ecological messages that align with our own sustainability values.

“We can’t wait for children visiting the museum to enjoy looking for the creatures that are hidden in our galleries.”

The Dudley’s Garden picture book series is penned by Cirencester author Dinah Mason Eagers, who swiftly followed the success of the first book with two further stories for children On the Top of Dudley’s Pond, and recent release In the Middle of Dudley’s Log Pile, which featured in the Standard earlier this year.

Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard: Dinah Mason Eagers with one of the illustrations by Anna Platts of Thunder the stag beetleDinah said: “My aim is to introduce children to nature in the family garden in a really positive and uplifting way.

"Each of the stories explores a different habitat and shows how wildlife and insects can make a garden their home.

“Children love the series, which is beautifully illustrated by Anna.

"It’s wonderful that we’ve been able to get together with the museum to give children a really fun activity to do during their visit.”

There are two trails, one for children aged over five and one for under-fives.

Caroline said: “The children search the museum for the animals that live in three different habitats in Dudley’s garden, and then claim their prize.

“The books are also for sale in the museum shop and will make a lovely spring gift.

"We are absolutely delighted to work with Cirencester publisher Crumps Barn Studio to produce our Spring Trail from the beautiful illustrations in the Dudley’s Garden series.”

The Spring Trail costs £2.50 per child, and runs from Saturday, March 23 to Sunday, May 19.
