A company that boasted of being Bath & West Wiltshire's number one recruitment agent has gone into voluntary liquidation.

The Shine Business Group Ltd was locked out of its premises at 9 Silver Street in Trowbridge after withholding its rent 'because of rats'.

The company's landlord Douglas Graham Developments Ltd was later granted a winding-up order.

The company's managing director said he formed the company to acquire the assets of The Shine Group Ltd, a company that provided commercial cleaning services.

The Shine Group Ltd, which also traded from the same address, was itself the subject of a creditors' winding-up order on April 28 last year after incurring debts totalling £595,019.

Correction: In a previous version of this article we said that Shine Business Group Ltd had debts of £595,019 when it was Shine Group Ltd, of the same address. We apologise for the error.

The Shine Group Ltd formerly operated in adjacent offices as ‘Shine the recruitment people’ and as ‘Shine the cleaning people’.

It offered advice and help to companies to fill both part-time and full-time positions and holiday cover.

The Shine Business Group Ltd was set up to tackle domestic and commercial cleans in and around Trowbridge alongside the recruitment of temporary staff.

Its advertising and promotion says: "We love what we do and we do it well."

The managing director says he hopes to trade under a different name and from another address in Trowbridge following the company's liquidation and says they have assets of £59,000.

He says he withheld his rent from Douglas Graham Developments Ltd because the Silver Street premises were infested with rats.

The winding-up order was obtained through the High Courts in London.

An Insolvency Service notice posted in the windows of the Shine Business Group Ltd offices says the company is now in Official Receivership.

The company's legal address has now been changed to premises in The Chapel, Bridge Street, Driffield in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

It adds: “A winding up order was made against the above-named on 20 March 2024 and the Official Receiver is liquidator.”

The liquidator Liesl Cook is also disclaiming any interest in the group’s premises, property, land, goods and chattels at 9 Silver Street.

She added: “No formal lease or licensing agreement was made between Shine Business Group Ltd and Douglas Graham Developments Ltd, the company was in occupation on an informal basis only.”
