A Wiltshire resident is outraged after being slapped with a fine while picking up his family from the train station.

Bob Brock, who lives in Bromham, dropped his wife and daughter off at Chippenham Railway Station shortly after noon on Friday, April 5, before returning to pick them up at around 6.30pm.

But Bob, who used the short stay car park for under the allotted 20 minutes during the trips, was shocked when he later received a £50 fine from parking management firm APCOA.

“It’s a complete nonsense”, he said.

It was claimed Brock had been parked in the short stay zone for about six hours.

He continued: “The cameras took my photo entering the car park in the morning and leaving at night, but they completely missed out the pictures in the middle.

“They’re just completely disorganised and I’d never part with money that I shouldn’t, but this has been very stressful.

“It’s aggravating, I wake up in the night thinking about it, so it has made me very angry.

Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras which are installed at the station had pictured his vehicle arriving in the early afternoon and leaving in the evening.

He said this is the second time this issue has landed him a fine and has since had both charges overturned on appeal.

He now fears other drivers may have faced the same problem.

Great Western Railway confirmed his fine has been cancelled following a successful appeal.

The company says APCOA regularly checks the station’s cameras and there are currently no signs of wider issues with the equipment.

A spokesperson added: "We are sorry to hear of Mr Brock’s experience. As a result of his appeal, his case has been investigated by APCOA and the Parking Charge Notice (PCN) has been cancelled.

"If anyone has been issued with a PCN that they believe is unjustified, we encourage them to follow the appeals process detailed on the PCN so their specific case can be reviewed.

"The ANPR camera at Chippenham railway station is checked regularly by our parking management operator, APCOA, and there is no indication of a general problem with the equipment."
