Almost 200 households and businesses in Wiltshire have woken up to darkness after a power cut has hit Bradford on Avon.

A total of 24 postcodes and 196 residents in the northeast of Bradford on Avon are being affected by the power cut after a power line came down in the area overnight.

The incident was first reported to SSEN just before 8am on Tuesday, May 14, and the Southern power supplier says it hopes to restore power by midday.

Residents in the BA14 and BA15 postcode areas seem to be the most affected, and areas without power include Woolley Green, Sladesbrook Road, Leigh Road, Holt Road and Bradford Leigh.

The power cut stretches as far north as Lower Wraxall and east over to Staverton, leaving multiple shops, pubs and other local services without power.

"Our engineers are in the local area and working hard to get power restored as soon as possible," said a spokesperson for Scottish and Southern Electricity.

"We have had reports of an overhead power line coming down, and when this happens the power will automatically turn off to keep everyone safe.

"These types of faults often require extensive work and specialist teams, but if we can restore power sooner, we promise we will do so."
