A place in Trowbridge where homeless people used to sleep in the doorway is to be converted into a pharmacy.

The former Lounge Café Bar, at 33 Roundstone Street, has been vacant since being closed in August 2022.

For the past two years, it was used by rough sleepers who used to shelter from the wind and rain in its doorway until they were ordered by police to leave.

Now the empty premises are to be converted into a Lockwoods Pharmacy which is relocating from the nearby Roundstone Surgery in Polebarn Road.

A spokesperson for Lockwoods confirmed the pharmacy is to relocate from the Roundstone Surgery where it currently rents space.

Lockwoods will be opening the new pharmacy on Monday, July 1 once the conversion work is complete.

The pharmacy currently opens from Monday to Friday, from 9am to 6pm, but is closed from 1pm to 2pm and at weekends.

It is not yet known whether the opening hours at the new premises will be extended to Saturday and Sunday.
