A speeding driver who went 70mph in a 40 zone while under the influence and failed to stop for police has been arrested.
Officers spotted an Audi A4 travelling at 60mph along County Way in Trowbridge shortly after midnight in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
When police followed the vehicle, it then accelerated to reach speeds of 70mph in a 40mph area and failed to stop when required.
The driver continued onto Yeoman Way and Sleightholme Court before officers saw him stop the car, get out of the vehicle, and roll into a garden.
The fleeing motorist then ran down an alleyway onto Frome Road.
A man in his 30s from Trowbridge has now been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police, drink driving, drug driving, dangerous driving, and possession of criminal property.
He was taken to Melksham custody for questioning and has since been released under investigation while the police's enquiries continue.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: "Anyone who witnessed the incident should call 101 and quote crime reference number 54240058969."
