A man broke the nose of a landlady after she kicked him out of her pub for being disorderly.

On September 4, 2023, Oliver Barton, 31, of Hampshire Place, Melksham warned the landlady of the Foresters Arms he would punch her - and then he did.

He pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm in Swindon Magistrates Court on Wednesday, May 22.

The court heard that on the evening of September 4, staff in the pub complained to the pub landlord about Barton being disruptive. The landlord then went to speak to Barton.

Mr Nightingale, prosecuting said: “Barton was complaining of slow service despite there being a drink in his hand, which is a little hard to understand.”

Initially, Barton started walking to the door, but later had to be escorted out by the landlady.

He warned twice: “I’m going to punch you in the face you b**ch”, before hitting her on the nose."

He claimed he heard homophobic comments from the landlady and staff, which they deny.

Mr Nightingale continued: “There was immediate blood and distress. The landlady was told her nose was fractured at Trowbridge Community Hospital."

The court heard she refused to have her nose set due to fear of treatment, and so she was described as having a “permanent disfigurement”.

“Yes, she denied the treatment, but she was only in the situation due to the blow”, said Mr Nightingale.

Barton was released on conditional bail to not enter the Foresters Arms.

He will appear at Swindon Magistrates Court on Sunday, June 20.

The Foresters Arms, on Sandridge Road, Melksham, is described online as “a family friendly community local, showing Sky Sports and BT Sports. Families, children and dogs are all welcome.”
