A woman has died after emergency services swarmed a canal in Wiltshire.

Police, paramedics, and fire crews were called to the Kennet and Avon Canal, near Caen Hill Locks, after a report of a person in the water during the morning of Tuesday, May 21.

A woman in her 40s was rushed to hospital in a life threatening condition.

Police have now confirmed she died of her injuries in hospital, despite the efforts of emergency responders.

An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

Any witnesses who saw what happened have been urged to come forward.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “We responded to reports of a person in the water in the Kennet and Avon Canal, Rowde, at around 10.30am yesterday morning.

“A woman in her 40s was taken to hospital in a life threatening condition but despite best efforts from emergency crews she died from her injuries in hospital.

“An investigation is underway into the circumstances of what happened.
