Fire crews remain at the scene of a large fire at a landfill owned by Hills Waste Solutions.

The rubbish tip in Compton Bassett, near Calne, caught fire at roughly 6pm on Sunday evening, with crews from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue attending to fight the flames.

At 7am on Monday, a spokesperson for the fire service provided an update.

They said: "Crews remained on scene overnight with the high volume pump being used to supply water to three monitors and three hose reel jets.

"The focus remains on stopping the fire spread and reducing the smoke plume to assist with daytime operations."

Firefighters from Calne, two crews from Chippenham, Devizes, Marlborough and Corsham along with a water carrier from Royal Wootton Bassett and a support unit from Salisbury were all involved.
