A TOWN councillor from Westbury died on Friday following a long-term illness.
Peter Ezra, who was 73, moved to Wiltshire with his wife Sue, also a Westbury town councillor as well as a district councillor, in 1983.
He was a staunch member of the Labour Party and was elected to the represent the Ham ward in 2007.
Westbury mayor Mike Hawkins led the tributes to the popular councillor.
He said: "I'm deeply saddened by Peter's passing away.
"My thoughts are with his wife, son and daughter and the grandchildren at this very difficult time for them.
"Peter had only been a town councillor since May 2007 but he proved himself to be a very good councillor who worked very hard.
"He was also a fine gentleman and had a great sense of humour.
"He will be sadly missed by all of his fellow councillors and by the people of Westbury."
Fellow town councillor Charlie Finbow added: "Peter was a man that I respected and liked very much.
"He was a hard working man and had a wicked sense of humour and Westbury Town Council will not be the same without him.
"My thoughts go to his wife Sue and his family at this time."
