Wootton Bassett were outgunned in a game against their neighbours they should have won.

High on confidence after drawing with Bristol University the previous Saturday, Bassett started well, with an early period of sustained pressure being rewarded with two goals.

The first came when a Wilts clearance found man of the match James Wright outside the D, who drove in unopposed to score.

Bassett then doubled their lead when a deft touch from Martin Bray found Kyle Barnes, who beat the keeper with a fine shot.

This was followed by a spell of pressure from a rejuvenated North Wilts side. Although Bassett initially defended well, an injury to Mark Tolley forced a major reshuffleand the visitors capitalised to score two quick goals.

A third was added just before half time to leave the score 3-2 at the break.

Bassett came back out firing on all cylinders and quickly reasserted themselves in the match.

Although they gave away an early penalty corner, which was well converted by North Wilts, Bassett responded quickly with some good attacking play, eventually opening up an opportunity for Barnes to add his second.

Bassett kept the pressure on, as they spent the next 15 minutes camped in the North Wilts half.

Sadly, they failed to convert their chances, and conceded a final goal at the death.
