With climate change high up on the political agenda, the overwhelming obligation to harness energy from renewable sources has never been greater.
Here in the South West, we have incredible natural resources available locally (wind, solar, tidal) which can play a pivotal part in helping the Government to achieve its renewable energy target.
Many landowners are understandably concerned about the negative reaction from local communities when faced with the prospect of a wind turbine on their ‘doorstep’. Wind turbines have been much maligned in the past but advances in wind turbine technology have significantly reduced noise pollution; add to that zero carbon emissions and the fact that the site can easily be restored without the potential risk of contamination so often associated with alternative energy resources and it’s a win-win situation.
Visibility remains a concern, but it is a small price to pay when compared with severe climate change, the irrevocable destruction of our landscape and the long term damage to our plant and wildlife if we don’t reduce our reliance on fossil fuel.
At Smiths Gore, we believe that the supply of potential sites for energy resources is fast becoming a critical asset in property management. As one of the premier land and property consultancies, we are experienced in acting as the intermediary between the landowner and the energy developer.
If you are considering your land as a potential site for renewable energy or have been approached by a third party exploring energy options and you would like guidance, we would be delighted to hear from you. We work collaboratively to achieve the best energy prospects whilst delivering a commercial solution.
