Pople interested in helping out at next year’s Melksham carnival are being asked to come along to the town’s Christmas Fair on Saturday to confirm their support.

Support for the event had dwindled over the past few years, but a new committee was set up earlier this year are already putting plans in place for next summer.

Chairman of the committee and mother-of-two Kathryn Allwood, 39, of Rutland Close, said she will be on a stall at the Christmas Fair and is hoping people will come forward and offer their help.

She said: “People can come and tell us what kind of help they can offer and how much time they can give up next year. They might be able to commit to an hour here or there and it means we have the help in place for next year.”

As well as the stall, which will also be attended by someone from the Party in the Park committee, the carnival royalty from this year will also be on hand for the switching on of the christmas lights in Market Place, later in the day.

Mrs Allwood said: “The carnival royalty will be doing a lot more this year.

“They will be opening the Leekes Christmas Grotto on Sunday too.

“It keeps the carnival in people’s minds and promotes it and it gets other girls and boys looking forward to next year.”

She said the committee were also looking to change the carnival parade route in 2010 slightly and were open to people’s suggestions.
