Engineers from Wiltshire Council have been assessing homes in Oldfield Park, Westbury, this week after part of a house collapsed.
The Jones family, as featured in last week’s Wiltshire Times, were left in a state of shock after bricks from the gable end of their home fell from the wall onto an outhouse last Wednesday night. Chris Solman, from building control at Wiltshire Council, said three homes had been found to have structural damage.
“Some of the houses there have already been repaired with similar sorts of problems, where the brickwork skin has moved outwards,” he said.
“Most have been rebuilt by the housing associations on the estate over the years, but I know there are one or two privately-owned houses that may need to be looked at.
“It’s probably caused by the age of the houses or the lack of wall ties.
“These houses are post war and the building standards then weren’t as good as they are now.
“We are helping the Jones family and our engineers have been out there this week looking into this.”
