Born: Sunday November 15, 11.55pm

Weight: 6lb 1oz

Parents: Claire and Glen Smart, Bowerhill, Melksham.

After the drama of an unplanned home birth, the Smart family is now able to relax and celebrate the arrival of little Imogen.

Dad Glen, 35, was called in to action when it became apparent their second-born daughter would be arriving a lot earlier then expected.

Mum Claire, 33, a self-employed hairdresser, said: “It wasn’t planned that way. It was a lot quicker then I ever intended. She was a week early.

“It all started at 8pm when my waters broke. I went to Trowbridge maternity unit and then came home to carry on with what I thought was going to be a reasonably long labour – but I didn’t make it out of the door.”

Mr Smart called for the ambulance service, who called for extra back-up in the form of midwife Louise Dibble.

Mrs Smart said: “Glen was fantastic and phoned the ambulance and did what the paramedics told him to do. He was definitely panicking that he would have to deliver.”

Luckily for the couple, who have another daughter, Madeline, aged four, paramedics and the midwife arrived just in time to welcome baby Imogen.
