On a recent trip to a play in London to see an adaptation of the The Shawshank Redemption, I was staggered by the noise and rudeness of the audience. Why do people bring their dinner to a cinema or theatre? On this occasion people ate loudly and someone was trying to open a plastic bag for what seemed to be at least five minutes, ruining a critical funny or serious part of the play.

Other audience members proceeded to eat noisily and left before the play was finished. What was the rush? A last train home, a transport system collapsing?

At a cinema in Bath, it was ruined by two drunk young men who spoke throughout the film with their feet on the chair beside me.

I noticed there are no manners any more. Why can’t they eat before or after a show?

People arriving late need to buy a watch. Why leave before a performance has finished? Why not bring a tissue or handkerchief, so germs are not spread to others while a coughing fit ensures? People are so rude, no manners or etiquette.

At a cinema in Bath seats are allocated and some people ignore that and sit where they want, resulting in chaos if the cinema becomes busy. It is like musical chairs at a kindergarten, where all have to swop seats to sit where they should have sat.

At a concert at the 02 Arena everyone kept going to the loo, probably due to drinking before the show, and nobody seemed interested in the concert, preferring to gossip with their friends and share photos from their mobiles while the concert was in full swing.

I won’t be wasting money and going out as it gets spoilt by rude people. Have any Wiltshire Times’ readers had the same experience that I have experienced, with their evening spoilt by selfish people?
