On visiting The Shires car park last weekend we experienced some damage to our car which was caused by the ramps recently installed.

We watched other vehicles negotiating these ramps as we approached and observed the great difficulty they were experiencing in trying to get over the ramps. We stopped as we reached the ramp and tried to ease our car over the ramp gently but due to the ridiculous severity of the angle on the ramp this activated our air bag warning and bent the electric socket on our tow bar. Our car is a Renault Laguna Estate. We are in our sixties and are not boy racers. We are very careful with our vehicle and always stick to sensible speeds on the roads and especially in car parks.

Surely a more appropriate type of action should be considered to prevent the problems you seem to be experiencing.

We do not use The Shires car park now as we do not wish further damage to our car. This traffic calming measure is just going to keep prospective customers away from the town centre.

We are now left wondering who is responsible for the cost of repairing the damage.

As a further note: we can see that other accidents are likely to happen, as we have observed when cars slow down for these ramps, cars following behind are not. So this looks like it will result in cars running into the back of each other as these ramps are so steep that you can actually bounce backwards off them and the slower you approach the ramp the more likely you are to bounce backwards. Cars behind will not expect the car in front to be coming back and will run into the back of the car.
