Having lived in Trowbridge for the past 34 years I would like to take issue regarding the lack of amenities in the so called “county” town. Over the years I have read about the ‘vision’ that our councillors have in respect of the town, from golf courses, swimming pools, bowling complex and multi screen cinemas to name a few. The story has never changed. It would appear they go through the motions, pay out ratepayers money to have consultants advise on what the ‘vision; should be, court developers’ interest and then fall at the final hurdle so we end up with nothing.

Perhaps they try to put too high a price on the ‘vision’ so that the developers back off.

So Trowbridge has hardly anything to offer, it is an embarrassment.

Now they have come up with the idea of pulling the Civic Hall down, the only place in town that holds entertainment on a regular basis, the only place the community can go. Wouldn’t it be a good idea to get something else up and running first to cater for the needs of the community rather than us end up with yet another mountain of rubble.

The cost of rebuilding the Civic Hall is astronomic and when it is eventually finished the community will not be gaining anything. The only people gaining will be the council employees who will be using the new offices. The size of the hall is not going to increase to cater for more people. Aren’t there any empty offices these employees can use?

The population of Trowbridge has increased dramatically and we have fewer amenities now than ever before.

It’s about time the council had a shake up as it would appear that they have a lacklustre attitude about actually getting anything done. I expect I’ll either be senile, so will not care, or pushing up the daisies by the time Trowbridge has had its makeover.

Can anyone else see those pigs flying over?
