CHIPPENHAM Ladies dropped into the relegation zone after defeat against bottom-of-the-table Taunton Vale despite a strong start.

They played the ball confidently down the right with Holly Honeywill making well-timed runs into the D. Chippenham kept up the pressure but Taunton’s defence held firm and did manage some counter-attacking moves.

A seemingly non-threatening pass that seemed to have gone past the Chippenham goal caught the foot of Jane Smedley and a dubious penalty stroke was awarded, which Taunton converted.

The second half started as the first had finished with Chippenham continuing to press forward. Some fine moves around the back of the Taunton defence from Fiona Wanliss and Rhiannon Price saw the ball released up the left with a shot just missing the post.

Chippenham remained dominant in the midfield with Tracy Davis distributing well.

But Taunton withstood the Chippenham attacks and the visitors only remained in the game due a fine goalkeeping display from Alexis Taylor.
