Residents in Lacock are looking forward to seeing how their village was transformed for eerie scenes in the new horror movie, The Wolfman.

The film, which is a remake of the 1941 original starring Sir Anthony Hopkins, Benicio Del Toro and Emily Blunt, will be released at the cinema on February 12.

Unfortunately, although Hopkins was due to shoot some scenes in Lacock in 2008, a last minute change to the filming schedule meant that he was not needed, much to the disappointment of his fans, but Del Toro was in the village to shoot scenes.

Chairman of Lacock Tenants' Association, Leo Stevens, lives opposite the Tithe Barn, where most of the filming took place He said: “The people of Lacock gave the Wolfman filming crew permission to film in the village.

“It was a closed set when it was here and was over pretty quickly so we didn’t have much to do with it, like in Cranford.

“I will be going along to the silver screen in Bath to see the film.”

Huge blocks of ice and models of dead bodies were used on set at the Tithe Barn to portray a Victorian Ice House, while one of the garages in High Street was turned into a blacksmith's workshop where silver bullets were being made.

Jean Sheard, who runs Lacock Bakery, is looking forward to seeing how the film crew transformed parts of the village.

Filming also took place in Castle Combe's High Street as part of a four-day shoot, manned by a production crew of almost 300 people.

The manager of the Castle Inn Hotel, Jo Worsley, 38, her husband Lee and her three stepchildren were delighted to provide the refreshments for the stars during their stay and are looking forward to its cinema release next week.

She said: “We had Emily Blunt and Benicio Del Toro here for about four days. They didn’t actually stay at the hotel but booked it out for exclusive use so we couldn’t open to the public.

“They would come in often for lunch or just a quick drink so it was great.

“We spoke to Emily and she was lovely. She was very laid back and the boys had a chat with Benicio, so it was very exciting.”
