CHIPPENHAM stunned their local rivals, who play three leagues above them, in the quarter finals of the Wiltshire Cup.

The home side dictated the pace of the game and were comfortable in possession, creating early chances for Alex Thomas and Colin Fisher.

They opened the scoring with a Nigel Stonham drag flick which beat the Marlborough goalkeeper low to his left.

They continued to press, maintaining possession with Cameron Main and Scott Trainor breaking quickly to force another short corner moments later.

A set move involving Luke Morris and Stonham, saw the latter firing home from close range for his second.

This woke Marlborough up and they now began to put Chippenham’s defence under pressure.

A short corner was powerfully flicked towards the top corner, only for it to be brilliantly turned over the crossbar by a diving Howard Simons. A push down the Chippenham left and a combination of Trainor and Main set up Morris to glide round the goalkeeper and flick the ball home.

Marlborough replied before half time and upped the tempo in the second half, scoring within a few minutes.

From the re-start, Chippenham counter-attacked with Morris and Stonham setting up Trainor.

He produced a lightning strike, which clipped the inside of the post and restored Chippenham’s two goal cushion.

Ben Jones was next to benefit from Main’s reverse stick pass and calmly slotted home a fifth before Alex Thomas’s reverse stick shot was cleverly deflected by Jones for his second.

Marlborough scored a breakaway consolation goal late on.

On Saturday, Chippenham were beaten 2-1 at home in the league by Cardiff Medics.

Chippenham started poorly, with a lack of application, and soon found themselves on the back foot.

After 10 minutes Medics scored the opening goal with a mis-hit short corner.

They continued to attack but Chippenham’s Darren Bean put a sterling performance at sweeper to keep them at bay.

Chippenham slowly got into the game with Harry Elias going close to grabbing an equaliser on two occasions following some good work from Luke Morris and Stonham in the midfield.

The second half started well for the home side, who dominated possession and territority.

Elias finally got the equaliser with a fine reverse stick strike from close range.

Against the run of play and with 10 minutes remaining Chippenham conceded the winner as an unmarked Medics player was given too much time to pick his spot.
