Organisers of events designed to break down barriers between young and older people are appealing for people to take part.

The Age - No Barriers week runs from July 10 to 16 and the organisers hope local groups will get involved, such as care homes, parish councils, day centres, schools and pubs.

Small grants funded by Wiltshire Council are available from the Wiltshire and Swindon Users Network to help towards the cost of putting on an event.

Sandie Lewis, head of strategy for the community and voluntary sector at Wiltshire Council, said: “We want local groups and organisations to help us celebrate the contribution all age groups can make to their communities. We know people have a lot to offer and we'd like to encourage young people and older people to learn more about each other."

Brian Warwick, chair of the Wiltshire and Swindon Users Network, said: "This is a great opportunity to remove those hidden barriers between all age groups, diminish fear and create a closer understanding for the young and older members of our communities by generating a closer understanding.

“Last years age - no barriers week certainly brought about a greater understanding and respect between young and old.”
