Police have closed a road off the A36 near Standerwick after a three car pile-up which happened within the last hour.
The accident happened near The Bell Inn in Rudge Road, Standerwick, Somerset, at about 3.15pm.
An ambulance crew is at the scene treating four casualties, one of whom is an elderly woman in her 80s who needs to be airlifted to hospital.
The casualties are believed to have neck and back injuries.
A fire crew from Trowbridge and another from Somerset are at the scene to help, as one of the cars caught fire.
