THE Youth Development Centre in Westbury is to close, it was confirmed yesterday.
The centre, in Eden Vale Road, will be refurbished and reopened as a Children's Centre to provide support for children aged 0-five years old and their parents.
The Youth Development Centre will continue, but the services it offers will change and it will be based from smaller premises, the location of which is yet to be confirmed, but could be from mobile units on the Eden Vale Road site.
Westbury Town Council met on Monday to comment on a letter received from Bob Wolfson, director for children and education at Wiltshire County Council.
Mr Wolfson explained in the letter that the Youth Development Centre would close and he also apologised that the consultation process on its future had been imperfect.
He added the closure was because the provision of youth services in the town was changing and a smaller base was needed. He also said about £800,000 of government money would be coming into Wiltshire in the next two years and they would welcome suggestions from young people about what they wanted provided for them in the town.
The final decision to close the centre and move it to new offices was made through delegated powers by cabinet member Cllr Nancy Bryant.
