Keen gardener Cyril Webb died at Salisbury Hospital on July 31, aged 75.

Mr Webb, of Warminster, was born in the old Netley Hospital, Southampton, in 1931, where his father worked as the chief electrical engineer.

He was orphaned at the age of 14 and having left school, came to Wiltshire under a youth scheme and began working on a farm.

His younger brother Ken, who had been sent to a Barnardo's home, joined him a few years later and they both went on to set up homes in the county.

Mr Webb worked as a farmer and also a lorry driver and travelled all over the country working for a number of firms, including Maurice Millard.

His real passion was his two allotments, where he spent much of his time despite his poor health.

He leaves his wife June, with whom he would have celebrated 25 years of marriage on Monday, his children Dee (Cindy), Marcus (Martin) and Justin and step-children Kim, Karen, Sue and Steve. He is also survived by his sisters Doris, Sheila and Vera.

The funeral will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, August 16 at West Wiltshire Crematorium, Semington, and at Hunters Moon, Warminster.

Family flowers only, but donations to Salisbury Breast Care Unit can be made care of F Curtis and Son, 11 Portway, Warminster.
