FIREFIGHTERS will be taking part in a charity car wash at Warminster fire station on Saturday from 10am-4pm.

The event has been organised by firefighter Bob Waller, of Norridge View, Warmin-ster, who is taking part in Tunnel to Towers, a 5km run that traces the path taken by New York firefighter Stephen Siller on September 11, 2001, as he raced to the site of the Twin Towers to help.

He was one of hundreds of emergency workers who died in the attack, and the event commemorates their sacrifice.

Mr Waller, 36, a member of Green Watch at Salisbury fire station, said: “I remember watching the September 11 attacks on TV and it was so shocking. I wanted to do something “Everyone is welcome to get their cars washed in return for a donation.”

“It’s great of the lads in Warminster to get involved and help with the fundraising. I’ve pledged to raise more than £3,000 but I’ve got quite a lot already.”

Mr Waller was to be accompanied on his run by partner Eleanor, but unfortunately she has broken her ankle.

The Tunnel to Towers race takes place on September 25. To sponsor Mr Waller, visit www.justgiving.com/Bob-Waller.
