THE residents of Westcroft Street are right to be concerned about the new storage facility opened up by Shanley's on the former Pipeline centre.

Our home backs on to Green Lane, at the end of which is a scrapyard belonging to Mr Shanley. Regularly we have lorries accessing this site at 6am often til well after 5pm and even sometimes on bank holidays. The dust is considerable, until an order was made by the local council, paper and plastic rubbish adorned the local hedgerows.

The noise is horrendous especially when the lorries have deposited their loads at the site and make the return journey with all their chains clanking and banging against the side of the skips.

In addition there is a 10mph limit on the lane, which is never adhered to unless you just happen to be walking a dog along there, then, mostly, the drivers might slow down until they pass you, after which they put a heavy foot on the accelerator and cover whoever is walking with dust.

One has to query what the council are thinking about. Are they not proposing to use the Bowyers site for recreational and residential purposes? How nice to have a cinema, swimming pool, bowling alley and housing alongside a scrap yard. Perhaps we can use the metal rubbish to create iconic and eye-catching sculptures to 'beautify' the surroundings.
