Warminster's Old Town Hall has been sold to developers, who plan to restore its former glory after years of decline.
Devo Developments has bought the Grade II listed hall for an undisclosed sum and plans a public consultation on its use.
The town’s Preservation Trust had hoped to buy it, but trustee Chris March said their proposals sounded encouraging.
A spokesman for the Bristol-based firm said: “We encourage feedback and views from the public regarding future use.
“We are open to all ideas that will allow public access to the building. Until planning is agreed, no work can be carried out.”
An attempt was made by agent Morgan Beddoe to auction the building in July, but the solitary bid, from the trust, was too small to appease the receiver Colliers.
Mr March said: “We’ve been worried about a developer taking over, then giving up on it again, which would be irritating after we had raised £50,000 and drawn up a plan.
“We will be contacting people who donated to but it if they want their money returned or used for another project.
“It would be great if we can work with the developer. There are huge costs involved and perhaps people would be happy for us to use money that way.”
