PERFORMING youngsters from Melksham Oak School took to the stage for three nights of sold out shows.

A cast of 37 pupils, taken from all years at the school, put on a production of the hit West End musical We Will Rock You in the school’s auditorium.

The shows, featuring many of the 1970s and 1980s hit songs of Queen, were performed on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights last week, in front of capacity audiences of 220 people.

Including the cast and crew, more than 50 students were involved in the production. They had been working on We Will Rock You in their own time for the past seven months.

Emma Cypher-Neal, the head of music at Melksham Oak, said: “We’re so very proud of the students. Their commitment to the whole project was outstanding.

“We’ve been living a dream for the last seven months and nothing can take away the memories from this cast.”

As part of their preparations for the show, the cast saw the musical performed by a professional company in Bristol and even met the cast afterwards.

Mrs Cypher-Neal said: “They were just blown away by it and, of course, wanted to replicate it on stage. They’ve been absolutely amazing.”

She said she had received comments about how professional the production had been and how good the performances were.
