MEMBERS of the Hot Chilli Triathlon Club will be hot-footing it to their sponsored 24-hour challenge to raise money for Children in Need.

The group are embarking on the fundraising challenge from noon today (Friday) until noon tomorrow.

A small, mixed ability and gender relay team from the community triathlon club will take on the challenge of completing a minimum Double Ironman distance Triathlon within the 24 hours target. The swim will take place with the support of DC Leisure at Trowbridge Sports Centre.

On the completion of the swim leg, in the presence of former Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies, the bike leg of the challenge – on turbo trainers – will continue at Tesco Extra in Trowbridge before the final leg on a treadmill.

Fundraising will take place at both venues throughout the 24-hour period.

Cut-off times have been established for the relay team to complete a minimum of the Double Ironman Distances – 7.6km swim, 360km bike and 84.4km run – but will be aiming to go further. The relay team will be made up of both practised and novice triathletes.

The novice triathletes started their involvement with triathlon at the beginning of the year when the Hot Chilli Triathlon Club was formed.

The more experienced athletes have sprint, standard and long distance triathlon accomplishments already under their belts.

Organiser Amanda Carroll said: “Our challenge will demonstrate how the sport of triathlon can reach whole communities as a healthy lifestyle and sport for all.”

Club coach Richard Smith said: “We are raring to go. Everyone is very excited about it and hopefully we are all feeling prepared.”

The event has been supported by DC Leisure, Precor Treadmills, Votwo Events and Tesco.
