Steam trains are to visit Melksham station for the first time since the 1960s.

The two steam locomotives will call at the station on June 26 and September 20.

The first visit will be from a train scheduled to travel from Westbury to Canterbury, leaving Westbury at 8.30am arriving at Melksham at 9am and then Chippenham and Swindon.

It arrives at Canterbury at 1.30pm, and returns at 5pm, arriving back in Melksham at 10.15pm. In September the service will travel from Banbury to Exeter and pass through Melksham at 10.50am, arriving in Exeter at 1.45pm before leaving at 5pm and arriving back in Melksham at 7.25pm. The train will also stop at Swindon, Chippenham and Westbury.

The locomotive to haul both trains has not yet been announced but is likely to be from 60163 Tornado, 34046 Braunton, 35028 Clan Line, 6201 Princess Elizabeth, 4492 Dominion of New Zealand, 70000 Britannia or 71000 Duke of Gloucester.
