Prince Andrew was the surprise guest of honour as 3 Yorks paraded through Warminster ahead of deployment to Afghanistan this morning.
Next month the troops will deploy to Afghanistan for nine months, just weeks after five of their comrades and a sixth soldier from The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment were killed in a bomb blast in Helmand.
Thousands of people lined the parade route as the soldiers made their way from Station Road through the Market Place, High Street, Silver Street and Bath Road before reaching Minster Church for a family service.
Prince Andrew took the salute as the soldiers, led by the Band of the Royal Logistics Corps, passed St Lawrence Chapel in High Street.
Among the crowds were family members of the 3 Yorks troops, schoolchildren, former soldiers, and people from across Wiltshire.
