Thousands of residents were left without power today as parts of Wiltshire were affected by high winds overnight and throughout the day.

The strong winds and heavy rain created much travel disruption as trees were brought down and blocked roads around the county.

And more than 1,000 homes were left without electricity around Calne, Devizes and Potterne as power cables were brought down.

Southern Electric engineers eventually reconnected the homes today.

But the Environment Agency also issued a flood warning for Dauntsey Brook near Lyneham.

Flood alerts have also been issued for the River Avon and tributaries, including Melksham and Bradford on Avon, while police have advised motorists to take extra care due to surface water and fallen debris.
